Planning a Soaker War-

To have a good war, you need to provide and pamper.  Make your guests feel at home.  Now to the specifics, mainly what to do and where.  Make sure that your site is approved, easy to find, and has whatever you would need close.  Then you need to make sure what you do is good and fine.

Your location should be somewhere that would be fun to play in, no matter the group size.  To pick your location drive around for a bit, look at parks.  Then find a park that fits your needs as a location and your guests.  Make sure there is a store or something with bathrooms nearby.  Make sure that there is water there.  If not, I recommend bringing coolers full of water.  Then make sure that you have permission to use the park or whatever area you are going to play in.  Nothing ruins a summer day like getting fined.  Make sure you accommodate whoever else comes by giving them room, such as taking an area out of the play area because a mom and her daughter set up picnic there.

Being a good person is as good as anything else in a SS War.  Be kind and not overly angry or feisty.  Make your guests feel like they are welcome.  Bring extra stuff like balloons and modding material and such when you host a war.  Don’t be stingy.  The more they like it the more likely they are to come back again and again.  Make sure you offer bunk to someone coming in from out of town.  Pick them up from the airport and such.  Just be a good person, pretend they are someone worth listening to and just shut up and LISTEN!

Overall make sure that you accommodate for anything that might happen while warring.  Use whatever safety you feel necessary.  Just be a good guy.  Thanks for reading this article.

There is a huge difference between wars setup in Nerf and soaking.  These guidelines are excellent...but they assume a Nerf-esque fighting style.  In organized Nerf, there is one ubiquitous style, the one we know from Apoc, Bcno, Dcno, etc.  Water wars have several distinctly different styles of organizing a war.  We don't have wars like Apoc, for starters.  Water warfare is widely scattered and concentrated in concrete teams.  No regional war has ever succeeded.  Some teams may be over 30 strong [there's a team in Singapore with hundreds of members], but most have less than 10.  While Nerfers prefer and use almost exclusively small parks [under a mile long is small in my book] with facilities, water wars occur in a wide range of places.  In organized wars, the most common is also a park, but much, much bigger, much wilder, and purposely without any facilities whatsoever.  My team's home battlefield is 2 miles long and a 1/2 mile wide in spots.  We use the whole thing in a typical 3 hour battle.  That's another thing - big Nerf wars tend to last about 4-7 hours and contain many short rounds.  Water wars often consist of one round, but it's hours long.

We are starting a league though, so travel may become more common.  It is well established in Nerf, but not at all in water wars.

Thanks for the comments.  I know that water wars last longer but because I am fairly new, how do you count hits?  And I know that Nerf Wars aren't just held in parks and neither are soak wars.  I personally love our 1 mile by .75 mile park that we have.  Take it up in PMs if you want to continue.

Not everyone counts hits.  There are four game families [one hit kills, one hit scores, organized soakfest, and free for all] and within them are basically infinite game types [CTF can be in any of them].  No two teams use quite the same game type.  My team uses Standard OHS, a scoring game type where lives are infinite by default, but the point is to score points with your kills rather than eliminate.  We use the "fist-sized kill", where you are hit if the water on your shirt [and only the shirt] is the size of your fist.  Hits anywhere else, including on a gun, don't count.
